How Earth To Editorial Started

Earth To Editorial was born from the idea that travel can be a force for good.

I’m Eryn, a travel writer who is obsessed with helping travelers explore authentically, ethically, and sustainably. You might have seen me on TEDx sharing what it means to be a good traveler, or come across one of my articles in The Zoe Report, Matador Network, or Fodor’s. No matter how you found me, I’m happy you’re here!

If you ever felt jaded by travel, you are definitely not alone. My story started back in 2021 as a new travel writer coming from a year of teaching in South Korea. Up to that point, I saw only the good sides of travel. Epic adventures, friends abroad, delicious food, and culture.

But then, I went to Thailand and visited an elephant sanctuary. The elephants wore sorrowful expressions and had deep scars in their skin. After a lifetime of serving the tourism industry, they were exhausted and hurt.

Why Good Travel Matters Now

This experience, while deeply painful to me, was a necessary eye-opener. I began to see the “bad” side of tourism, which had been there all along.

Overtourism. Loss of cultural identity. Destruction of historic neighborhoods and ecosystems.

These negative outcomes are a symptom of what I call the perfect storm of bad travel: hyper-popularized destinations, a lack of government regulations, and unawareness by the visitors.

While we can’t do anything about the governments, we can change how we behave, act, and explore the destinations we visit.

Earth To Editorial is all about improving what we have control over—ourselves! That’s why this blog focuses on guides, recommendations, and itineraries all geared toward ethical, sustainable, and authentic travel.
